Working for a big distributor of PC hardware and software, I know what we paid
for M$ products and top level tech support: $0.00 USD. As a student at a
large state college I know what all M$ OS's cost me: $0.00 USD. I have free
copies of WinXP Pro, Win2003, .NET application development stuff, Project and
a few others. I can't get Office from the same source but I can get a student
version from MicroCenter for a song (with rebates and stuff). In short,
Windows now has the same price as linux. I will leave the calculation of cost
as an exercise for the student.
