No, that's not at all how it happened.  They tried to give it away, and 
no one used it.  Then they bundled it with the OS, and the unwashed 
masses used it because they didn't know the difference.

Actually, what they originally promised with the ability to run Windows 
software natively in Linux.  Then they quietly dropped that promise in 
favor of using wine.  Then they stopped pushing wine altogether. 
Lindows' history is filled with bold announcements followed by retreats 
back to reality.

The current situation with their naming is just more of that trend. 
They're riding on the shoulders of giants, and lack any value adds. 
Their entire technology is based entirely on Debian.  They're not 
offering anything that someone else running vanilla Debian couldn't get 
on their own for 100% free.

Apple seems to have found a good market plan for that already.  Anyone 
with a clue wouldn't try to emulate the failure that is Lindows.
