I think that when a program survives the initial programmers and generates
interest, these things often change. The initial programmers identify a need
and fill it. It enough people feel this is a worthwhile thing, they add
support. It is all very Darwinian. FOSS evolves through mutation. And
initial mutations are often not a pretty sight. That comes with adaptation
and further evolution.
