SSL/IMAP Is it safe enough to run exposed to the internet

I have a Courier-IMAP implementation that I am wanting to expose over the internet using IMAP/SSL.
Is there any huge security holes that anyone knows of or is it ok to expose this to the internet.
The actual setup is on a box behind a NAT'd firewall.
