SSL/IMAP Is it safe enough to run exposed to the internet

I have a Courier-IMAP implementation that I am wanting to expose over the internet using IMAP/SSL.

Is there any huge security holes that anyone knows of or is it ok to expose this to the internet.

The actual setup is on a box behind a NAT'd firewall.

<EMAIL_SERVER>----<FIREWALL NAT>--<INTERNET>---

192.x.x.x/24 ports 80/443/25/993 forwarded to internal host
