You may have to fiddle KDE's app-defaults for the XTerm to turn off KDE
values which override anything in your ~/XTerm file.  I've found this to be
on earlier versions of Caldera's OpenLinux KDE releases, but I don't
remember having problems since switching to SuSE last year.
