Working with a co-conspirator across town on a presentation with short
deadline it was very handy to be able to IM a question or comment
without interrupting 'flow' and receive a reply right away.

No waiting for the other end to check e-mail, no stopping to dial/answer
the phone. None of the identifying, greeting, parting stuff that takes
time in phone communication.

Before that little project I thought IM was just something my daughter
used to waste time when she should be doing homework. Who knows, maybe
some of her IM is homework.
