I think maybe another of the letters suggested another likely cause--that 
Ghost was creating a fake partition within an existing one, and from the 
empty space on it, and adding it to the partition table.  The fact that it 
requires a specific version of Ghost--and without updates/patches--and the 
fact that it requires stopping in the middle of the process makes it likely 
that the phenomenon depends on some sort of bug.  So does the fact they 
report such large amounts of "regained space".
