There's a big difference between "deprecated" and "doesn't work any
more."  When a feature is deprecated, it (usually) means that
development for the feature has ceased.  OSS and devfs work just fine on
2.6, but of course you'd be hard pressed to get any bugs fixed.  I've
switched over to udev (which is quite bleeding edge), but most gentoo
systems still use devfs which is pretty stable; I haven't heard any
complaints in a year or more - other than the arcane syntax for coding
devfsd.conf <g>.
