Gentoo install and 'world' updating

You emerged devfsd? Which kernel are you using? Which Gentoo did you start
with (1.4 or 2004)? Somewhere along the way I suspect you missed a step.
devfsd and all should just 'be there'. Until the devfs stuff goes away.
Note that there is a 'world' and a 'system'. I would expect to see devfsd in
the system, not the world. The world category tends to be all your add-ons
beyond the base system. These are kept separate so you can update the
'system' (emerge system) separate from the other apps (emerge world). It is
not unusual for something in the world category to want a system thing
updated (and it sill see that it gets done). I have yet to see a system
thing that requires that a world thing get updated. (Of course, I have not
looked too closely.)
