(Relatively) Cheap Thrills: AMD K6-III+ CPU Upgrade

mutilated misquotes
from Leon Goldstein's 10 Mar 2004 classic prose
may follow:

" So, I decided to take a chance with an upgrade to a K6-III. I bought a
" K6-III+ 450 mHz CPU from
" http://www.upgradeability.com/K6plus/index.htm?source=AdWords1
" after detailed correspondence with the owner.

I can confirm that this works, but I'm not sure how really cheap it
is compared to today's prices on new boxes. I'm running a K6-III+
overclocked to 600 mhz right now and have been for quite a long time.
I too got one from the above source and another from ebay (though the
supply there seemed to have dried up a while ago). The reports I
read suggested that getting this specific chip up to 700mhz
successfully was not uncommon.

The key as to whether or not the K6-III+ will work seems to be the
motherboard and bios. See

http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/J.Steunebrink/k6plus.htm

I'm looking for a really good, really cheap used socket 7 mobo to put
my spare k6-III+ into. I'd appreciate hearing about any available.
