Paying for Email

Last time I checked, my ISP does not provide me with free access to
e-mail. I must pay for the service. Granted it is not per-message, but
it is not free.
It would also be funny that just when the telecom is industry is sorting
out a connection not based on per-connection or even connection time
access (just on actual data transfered), the content itself turns around
and puts back per-item pricing.
