Most of these elected officials know that their political success 
depends on the ignorance and apathy of those who elect them to public 
office.  This is why there is a conflict of interest in government 
involvement in education.  A genuinely intelligent electorate would be 
inimical to their careers.

The same holds true for MS.  That is why there is so much emphasis now 
in spending big $ to upgrade and modernize computer labs in schools.  
Every year my local school board whines for more $ for school 
computers.  Of course, with every computer comes Windows.  The objective 
is not to increase public proficiency with computers, but to condition 
people to accept MS products as an inevitable part of life, along with 
death and taxes.
