I am going to add my 2 cents here, as well as PAD a little information.
I have a XP2800 Desktop, nForce2 Chipset, 1.5GB Ram, 120GB disk,
DVD burner, 6.1 Surround sound speaker setup, 17" LCD monitor,
nVideo Mx440 8x with 64Mb ram. THe main Board is by MSI and it has
Kingston DDR 3200 memory modules.
It is my DEMO machine for when I teach the Linux course at the
local New Horizons, of go in front business's and PITCH
Linux solutions - and IT does get everone's attention.
It has SuSe 8.2, 2.4.22(KERNEL.ORG) with the Linux_API to run SCO
binaries.
For 95.5 percent of the time it works flawlessly. Seems on occasion,
though, when and after doing something that involves HEAVY graphics,
it LOCKS completely up. On PULLING the power cord out of the back
will get it to reboot.
Now, I have been installing some P4 2/2.8Ghz machines for a customer
that have 1GB Rambus, CD/RW, 40GB hardrives and, at my request,
nVidia 8x 440MX with 64MB DDR video cards. They seem to be doing the
same thing, so I am guessing that something is going on with the
nVidia drivers.
NOW, pay attention here - this IS imporant to know - when I have
tried to ctrl-alt-backspace when they lock up, they all turn
themselves off!!!! That got frustrating, till I stumbled across
the fact that NEW Bios's have a keyboard "kill" that seems to be
a , you guessed it, "ctrl +alt +backspace". Turning OFF the
"keyboard control" under the Power section of the BIOS, has
at least solved that problem.
Now, Maybe it's time to look to see if nVidia has any new drivers ...
