| Has anyone run into problems using the new monster IDE drives? I
| just won one on eBay, a WD 120GB UltraATA/100 beast with an 8MB
| cache (I remember hard disks that weren't much bigger than 8MB).

i've been using a 120 for awhile now, no problem -- the maxtor 8-meg
cache, billion rpm thing -- but decided to draw the line at 120 because
there are bios limitations and/or linux limitations for bigger drives
(for which there are workarounds, but they are said to be something of
a pita). but you shouldn't have any problem with the 120s.

get a good 80-conductor cable; even so, you'll likely see some harmless
but worrisome errors thrown at boot (and appearing in various logfiles)
at the ata speeds. (didn't go away even with the round cable here.)
