Video card detection

speaking of which.

the previously mentioned loss of the root password was in connection
with putting a nice g-400, 32-meg card in a machine, the chief purpose
of which was to enable opengl. the root password was necessary to run
sax2. but the frigging thing would not enable 3-d, claiming that it
cannot do so dual-headed. it *is* a dual-headed card, but i had opengl
working just fine with it here. of course, when i replaced it i also
managed to lose the carefully crafted XF86Config, and suse's tools for
configuring a card, to use the technical term, suck.

anybody here running a matrox g-400? if so, might you send to me,
offlist, your XF86Config, so i can sort out what needs to be loaded and
what doesn't? i'll get my sister so mail me hers, and i'll do some
editing and mail it back, and maybe it can be gotten to work.

tia.
