SO refusing to start

Joel,

Check your process listing (ps -f -u xxx ) or some such and make sure that a 
previous instance of SO is not running. Also, IIRC there is a lock file 
somewhere in your personal SO directory that might have failed to be removed.

I haven't run SO is a couple of years, but OOo instead, but I used to have a 
similar problem. I solved it by examining the startup script until I found 
that point at which it was failing.
