Strange hardware problem

Hi all!

I've been offline most of this week because my MSI motherboard started
shutting down on me. It was the strangest thing -- almost as if I had a
poltergeist in the room or something. When I boot up, once the
motherboard does a floppy seek or tries to access the hard disk or CD
ROM, it suddenly shutd down. Note : this happens even before my OS has a
chance to boot.

Has anyone seen this kind of problem before? I'm pretty sure it's not
the AMD CPU overheating. I did a CMOS reset, but it still gave me this
problem.

I had to shell out some money to replace the motherboard -- and a new
casing with 4 fans so it wouldn't burn out during the coming dry season.

Regards,
