I just did this 30 seconds ago on a SuSE 8.1 box just to test it out.
I also run WP8 on a Caldera partition.  The SuSE rpm puts all of the 
contents of shlibs5 in its own directory in /usr while my Caldera box 
has shlibs5 contents spread around.  
In fact, I not only have the Corel CD with full WP8 but I also have a 
SuSE WP8 rpm that I actually used first and then upgraded to the 
full-blown WP8 from the CD.
