StarOffice has a WP filter, but only for its Windows version.

Makes no difference to WP8.

There is a plug-in for Abiword that provides import filters. The WP
filter is quite good.

SuSE has shlibs5, which you should install with YAST. That provides
libc5, writes /etc/ld.so.conf, runs ldconfig etc.
Your Caldera WP8 RPM installs in /opt, and the executable is ~/wpbin/xwp.
If you get an error after installing (forgot the exact wording) open wp8
as root/su, then run~/wpbin/xwp -adm, and in the preferences tab of the
little window that opens next to the WP8 desktop disable file locking.
This particular little problem seems to be quite frequent with new Linuces.

Current Abiword and Koffice have WP import filters. They work on
Libranet 2.8.1 (stock install.)
The Abiword filter is the more capable.
