Absolutely agree that Canadian beer is not the world's best. Just that
when comparing generic lagers that us North Americans prefer, then the
Canadian generic (Molson, Labatt, etc) is preferable to the American
generic (Millar, Bud, Rainer, Old Milwaukee, etc) mostly cause there is
a little more flavour in the Canadian. Sorry but the American generic
tastes like it has had all the unique flavour removed so as to not have
any flavour that anyone could be offended by.

My generic pale beer preference is Molson Canadian or Kokanee Glacier or
Gold not because they are that much better, but that after years in the
army in various places I could order a "Canadian" anywhere in the
country and it would taste the same. Much like you can travel around
the world and a Big Mac and fries will taste the same whether you buy it
in Canada, US, England, Turkey or the Arab Emriates. So ordering a
Molson Canadian is a safe haven and the beer is good enough.

As Collins mentioned in his posting it is the small or specialty
breweries such as Samuel Adams that produce a truly enjoyable product.
In Calgary our local specialty brewery is Big Rock and they have ales
such as "Warthog" and "Traditional" that have good flavour. The
nation-wide brewery Molsons is trying to compete with the specialty
brews by offering "Rickards Red" Which is pretty good from a huge
brewery and again is available across the country.

My preference for non-thinking beer is to order a Rickards Red anywhere
in the country. And it is available in keg size when you need party
volumes. Otherwise I will try the local specialty brew houses in
whatever part of the country I happen to be in.
