KDE file browser question: ?Thumbnails

When viewing a directory of jpg's, using the file browser
in windows, and the visual schnauzer in xv, a folder of
thumbnails is generated, which greatly speeds up viewing
the directory on the second and subsequent visits. I am
not seeing this behavior in KDE. I cannot find any mention
of thumbnails in the browser handbook.

I am using browser:
3.01.

I don't see where to get my current version of KDE.

Any insight appreciated,
