spam out of control?

I'm thinking there are people looking for something for nothing, and 
they fall for the big promises about how cheap it is to spam, costs 
almost nothing, just buy this automatic program for 29.95 that will make 
you rich overnight by sending 2 billion letters out to everyone in the 
universe and you're bound to get someone stupid enought to send you some 
money.

And, yes, Id o think a lot of this is related to the new virus.
