pixel editing

hi, gang!

i have the task today of removing the redeye from a whole bunch of 
pictures. the best way of doing this in my view -- absent better 
suggestions, which are welcome -- is by zooming 'em way in and 
literally editing pixel-by-pixel. if there's a way to do this in the 
gimp i have not found it. so. anybody know of an app (preferably one 
i'm likely to have already) that allows this fairly readily? it used to 
be pretty easy in, say, staroffice, but OO is a little short on the 
graphics tools.

suggestions desperately sought.
