There is a user-level usb library that allows you to access usb devices that
do not fit the mold. I once used it with a program to access a Nikon USB
camera that does not look like a hard disk. It worked great. I would imagine
that getting it to work with gpsd should be straight forward, as all gpsd
does is read NMEA strings from the device and repackage them for consumption
over the ethernet. Check out:
