Alsa sound question

Hmm.....

I get the same error when artsd tries to start with the
-a option, that is, the option that starts alsa. Something
about a default and no such file or directory. If you leave
-a off, then artsd uses oss. This is bad because everytime
I hit a key on the keyboard the sound skips a bit.

I am using kernel 2.4.24. I wonder what I am missing. I
tried to go to the url below but google choked on it.

Can you give me some different directions.
