can't acces cdrom

Hi guys, i need help related to mounting cdrom.
i have ever mount cdrom but this time i does not work.

i got error message : "mount: /dev/cdrom is not a valid block device"

the fstab file contain the following lines:
"/dev/cdrom       /mnt/cdrom       iso9660     noauto,owner,ro           
0   0"

what's the problem? can somebody help me.

Also how can i play vcd .dat files in linux and what s/w should i use?
