Configuring DWL-520 wireless network card

Well, I guess I have reached the dead end on this project for now.
I downloaded kernel 2.4.24, configured it, and actually
got it to boot. There are some oddities, but it worked.
I got the newest prism drivers, built them against the
sources of my running kernel, and loaded them. I got the
exact same error as before with the stock 2.4.23 kernel:
wland[6087]: wland daemon init successful
wland[6087]: netlink socket opened and bound successfully
kernel: prism2_init: prism2_pci.o: 0.2.1-pre9 Loaded
kernel: prism2_init: dev_info is: prism2_pci
kernel: A Prism2.5 PCI device found, phymem:0xdfcff000, irq:10, mem:0xe6b9a000
wlan.agent: /sbin/prism2dl not found, aborting firmware download.
wlan.agent: Failed to enable the device, resultcode= implementation_failure .
wlan.agent: WLAN wlan0 brought up successfully.
wlan.agent: WLAN bringing up layer 3+ with /sbin/ifup
iwconfig shows the device unconfigured,
Warning: Driver for device wlan0 has been compiled with version 16
of Wireless Extension, while this program is using version 15.
Some things may be broken...
wlan0 IEEE 802.11-b ESSID:""
Mode:Auto Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00
Encryption key:off
Attempts to configure it with the command recommended by
the driver people:
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable
gives:
message=lnxreq_ifstate
fstate=enable
resultcode=implementation_failure
So, the thing seems to be the missing prism2dl. I googled
around and found that the company which put out the prism
drivers has stopped distributing prism2dl, for reasons
unclear but having to do with support or whatnot. I found
a source for the prism2dl, compiled it, and got a hardware
error when I installed the prism modules.
Unless somebody knows other drivers that work with this
card, I think I have spent enuf fruitless time on wireless
for now.
