My extension to your question would be: can you even find SCSI burners any more, especially the DVD variety?  

And, secondly,  somehow I would doubt that any burner SCSI or IDE without an extremely large buffer could cope with having it's input stream interrupted.

So, the question really is, which units are quality built and have a large enough buffer to make burning coasters unlikely?
