Toshiba Satellite P15-S409 Suse 9.0 Wireless installation problem

The above machine w/Atheros AR500 1X Wireless Network Adapter (as shown 
by Windows XP).  Worked fine in XP wireless.  Works fine in Linux with
hardwire to access point/router.  Trying to install Suse 9.0 Linux. 
Install seems ok, but no communication.  dmesg|grep wlan0 shows Atheros
5212,and "No IPv6 Routers present".  Same error is in /var/log/messages 
I don't necessarily want to use IPv6; why is it trying that instead of
IPv5?  I have static address  192.168.1.103.  Ifconfig -a shows good MAC
address, good inet address and UP, but dropping all RX packets. iwconfig
shows good ESSID & nickname and Managed, but power "off".  Rx shows
"invalid nwid", but I shouldn't need nwid.  Can anyone help?
