Sorry - don't have WP5/Unix.  If you have Insert > Symbol you should be able to get the escape codes.  On my WP8.1 I noticed that the - is shown
as -hyphen in Reveal Codes, but alt - just displays as -.  (Good ol' Reveal Codes.)

If you are still having a problem I can fire up WP 6.1/DOS tonight in text mode and see what I can find.  I haven't used text mode in ten years.
