Yes, you can add users like any flavor of linux. And,
things works fine for regular users.

The main advantage of running as root in the previous
versions of lindows was using the warehouse. Only root can
do that. But  I noticed in the new version when you log on
as a regular user you are asked immediately about the root
password so the click and run progam can function. Being
root is very convenient and users like it. Just ask Bill
Gates. However, if root adds an application from the
warehouse, it is not automatically made available to the
kde desktop of other users. This is  a real nuisance.

The one thing I don't do as root is read mail. And,
you have to have a regular user so telnet and ftp work.
