I'm not doubting you, either.  At least one other responder used the term "flaky" for gcc 3.3.  Gentoo has all 3.3 builds still marked testing/experimental which doesn't necessarily prove anything except the fact that there's not enough testing yet to consider the package stable. Gentoo, like I, tend to be rather conservative when it comes to the compiler.

As an aside, Gentoo also list new XFCE builds as testing/experimental, although we all know that most XFCE builds are rock solid.

I'm not in the busness of evaluating compiler builds, but I file away little tidbits "problems with GCC 3.3 ..." in the back of my mind as meaning "I'll wait a while longer before upgrading."

That's about it.

OTOH, I've been running kernel 2.6.x for a long time now without any consequences while many of you still regard this as experimental. <g>

It looks like the best we can do here is YMMV.  There are doubts in some people's minds (real or ????), and at least one user is getting good results.
