If you are interested in bang-for-buck, check out http://www.myaopen.com/
I've bought two 2.6+GHz machines from there for under $900each in the last year. They have a lot of "AOpen" brands which tend to be good quality without the name-cost. Their pricing on Name-brands is great as well:
?STEP01:?(+31.00) MyAopen 313B4 400W w/Front USB Mid Tower Case
?STEP02:?(+134.00) AOpen AK79G Max MB **,AMD nForce2 IGP/ 333MHz/DDR400/ USB2.0/ 1394/ LAN
?STEP03:?(+366.00) ** AMD XP-3200+ ** 400FSB Retail Box CPU
?STEP04:?(+83.00) Apacer 512MB DDR400 Memory
?STEP05:?(+103.00) -- WD 120GB -- 7200RPM ATA100 8MB /WD1200JB
?STEP06:?(+10.50) MITSUMI 1.44 Floppy Drive
?STEP07:?(+55.00) AOpen COM4824 48X24X48X16 DVD CDRW Combo Drive
?STEP08:?(+34.00) AOpen DVD-1648 16X48 IDE DVD-ROM
?STEP09:?(+139.00) AOPEN Aeolus Ti4200 8X 128MB DDR
?STEP12:?(+26.00) AOPEN FM56-PX V.92 56K FAX/MODEM
?STEP18:?Free Assembly W/ Original case box
?STEP19:?One Year Parts and Labor Warranty
?Total:? $981.5
I embelished on the Processor and Video a bit, and gave you another DVD drive. The LAN card is 10/100/1000. The GF4Ti is NVidia's high-end GPU with TV-out and Capture capabilities (I've not tested the capture in LInux) I know that 3D works well in Linux, even if I could shoot the guys at NVidia sometimes :)
The Logitech 3button wheel mouse is $7 and Speakers with 450W sub is $30, but everything is optional and the people at myaopen are good to work with. I keep trying to get them to offer Linux, but I can get that through BestBuy and SuSE.com just as easily I suppose.
Check out the site. Under the System Configurator you have nearly complete control of what is in the box.
