For CD-only Plextor makes excellent ones. My IDE 52x32x52 is pretty
new, but I always burn at 52x, and I've done maybe 100 CDs since I got
it in November, no coasters yet. I don't really know about DVD burners,
as I decided to wait out until the speeds increased (the 8x were just
starting to come out in Nov., so I didn't want to get a 4x). For DVD,
get one of the ones that does both the + and the - discs for greater
compatibility. Who knows which one will eventually win out, but you
can't really go wrong if you get something that supports it all. The
ones from Plextor and Sony (the two brands I really looked at) are
supposed to be good, but I can't recommend them as I haven't used them.
So far I don't think there are any internal SCSI DVD burners, although I
think there's an external SCSI duplicator/triplicator for a couple grand ;)
