Hi Joel,
By "detachable keypad", are you talking about the usb 10-key pads? If so,
Kensington, IBM and Targus have models available. I have tried models from
Kensington and Targus.
The Kensington keypad did not work properly within spreadsheets. To start a
cell entry with a minus sign, you have to precede it with an equal sign. I'm
not just talking about entering a negative number, but any entry starting
with a minus sign. I'm not just talking about Linux or FreeBSD, the problem
existed in Excel on Windows. Kensington knew about the problem but blamed
the spreadsheet software. ("It's not our problem.")
I currently use a Targus 10-key pad, model PAUK10, with my laptop. It was a
lot cheaper and works properly. I had to get used to the "000" key between
the "0" and "." keys; but that was a minor adjustment.
These are commonly available at medium to large computer stores.
Best of luck,
Andrew Gould
