I have used the DWL650 card with both the "linux-wlan" driver as well as the "orinoco" driver.  Both seem to work pretty well, although I've been warned that the Orinoco driver can be unstable with the DWL650 and I should use the linux-wlan driver.  This was the Prism2 chipset, not the Intel like Roger was talking about.

Either way, I'm using an Orinoco card most frequently these days anyway.
It works nicely with Kismet and AirSnort without having to install a whole huge rigamorole like the linux-wlan drivers.  Installing the patched driver with monitor mode (sniffing without having to be associated to an AP) is a simple overlay of the original driver.
