How true.  This is why I doggedly hang on to old Word Perfect.
As long as there is some sort of printer definition, WP will print to it 
raw and get the job done.

I typically cut and paste documents e.g. from web sites, I want to print 
into WP8 and print from there.
WP8 will finish printing a two page document while CUPS is still 
thinking about it.
