Is there a way to select by color?
I got the same result by:
1. Starting a new picture with a white backgroud.
2. Entering my text. This is automatically on a new layer.
3. Deleting the background layer to get a transparent backgound.
To get to the correct menu for this, you have to use the file
command in the main menu widget, it seems. File/Dialogs/Layers.
4. Save as png or tiff. (There is no gif option in my gimp.) You will have
to export it, no big deal.
