FWIW, lindows claims to install version 1.8.3,

GNUCash has had a significant number of bugfixes since 1.8.3:
http://gnucash.org/en/index.phtml and
http://gnucash.org/en/oldnews.phtml have the relevant release notes.
It's interesting that 1.8.3 was released on May 13, 2003, but the last
revision to the click-n-run (tm) package (according to the lindows.com
website) was April 10, 2003.
Seems that lindows.com doesn't care to keep their packages current.
