That's amazing ! I'm running XFCE4 with 512MB of RAM and 3 SCSI drives
(9GB each). I find that having SCSI drives makes a lot of difference --
not sure about the RAM because I haven't tried putting 1 GB of RAM in my
box. I read somewhere that Linux is slow on disk writes (compared to
commercial Unixes and Windows), and with an IDE hard disk the slowness
is quite noticeable. Admittedly, I'm talking about the older drives, not
the new serial ATA ones. I'm actually a little afraid of them because
they run really hot.
