SUSE dhcppc3 hostname

I have seen this in the past, but I can't remember how to fix it.  The only 
relevant google searches point to not-found references on Mandrake forums.

Now that I'm using SUSE 9.0, my HOSTNAME always turns up as dhcppc3 instead of 
what I put in /etc/hostname.  The SUSE init scripts are a complete bowl of 
spaghetti, so I haven't had much luck tracing where this happens and why.

Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?
