I'd say "yes". I had put Linux (Caldera 2.3) on a P100 just to 'see
what Linux is', but it was only after noticing a spreadsheet printed a
little nicer in OpenOffice.org under Linux than it did in OOo under
Windows that I decided to put Linux (Red Hat 7.0) on my 'good' computer
and began to discover what Linux is. Within 3 months or so I was not
booting Windows anymore.
Wife used Windows still, but I got her using OpenOffice.org and Mozilla
browser and e-mail. When the anti-virus subscription ran out I got her
to try Linux. She logged on, found OpenOffice.org and Mozilla there and
asked "This is Linux? What's the difference?" Even copied her Internet
Exploiter 'favorites' to Mozilla 'bookmarks' and copied them over when
she switched to Linux. (Who was it that said "Happy wife, priceless!")
As for "What's the difference?", I just left it at "I don't have to pay
for an anti-virus." because she really doesn't care as long as she can
access her quilting websites.
Next month I'll be putting a Linux PC in Dad's house.
