Oddly enough, 8.2 dropped the automated SuSEPlugger, which I assume is
named for it's "Plug-n-Play" goal. It was in 8.1, and it back in 9.0,
but 8.2 (for all of it's advantages over 8.0 and 8.1) was missing that
one. It basically identifies new HW and asks if you would like to
configure them. As previously mentioned, it has helped me add CDRW,
Scanner, but also mouse, and most importantly my ATI TV-Wonder
Video-capture board. 9.0 seems like an incremental improvement over 8.2
to me, but probably since 8.2 is still keeping me quite happy. They've
consolidated several things, improved several things, and a few things
are newly broken. A few less software packages and newer revisions
across the board. Yast2 has added functionality for several newer
services, as noted in the README file:

In addition to the YaST administration modules covered in the
manual, additional modules are also included. Here is a list of new
modules:

DHCP Server
TFTP Server
Samba Server
HTTP Server
DNS Server
Samba Client
NTP Client

Except for the "NTP Client" and "Samba Client"
modules, these new modules are only included in the Professional
edition.
