I have ben quiet, as you all well know, for sometime now. The inability to
keep up with others on the list plus developments that have passed me by,
have aspired to shut me up.

The main reason for success of any list is 'controversy and limited knowledge'.
By that I mean that the knowledge is built into a few who are willing and eager
to distribute that knowledge, plus a controversial edge that make those on the
list into disciples.

In the beginning there were: Damd sorry wrong tract:: In its infancy the old
caldera list was a focal point, for those who hated M$ and wanted something
different after the collapse of OS2. Hence it was a boiling pot. Today we
have the
situation where the is now plenty of documentation, not sufficient, but
then all
the others lack this too, at this point in time: level playing field.

So I too think the list is has served its purpose to a great degree.
Initially the
install of linux was a minefield for even the initiated, sometimes to ones
great suprise
it went smoothly an one wondered what was wrong. BTW, something else we
were all a lot younger and competitive plus many were single and no dependents
to bother us with 'workloads' outside computing.

New membership ? They all have heard about linux by now, a plethora of
newsy sites,
along with many other lists, even this lists SxS can be reached without
being a member.
Who has problems loading printer drivers or camera drivers today, not many,
in other
words linux has matured and is continuing to do so. Its only in the more
esoteric hardware
that its lacking, dvd authoring, digital and HD TV card support etc.

Wow that was a dissertation, feel like me old self. Go on make my day, Kurt
and Lonnie
flame me.

Skippy; feeling more like Gandalf day by day.
