You might try the ER choice in the pull down menu. I think it says
chronogram by default.

This gives you text boxes.

Another way is to just write some text. Then put on a box. Make the box
background transparent (do not draw) and put the text in the box. You
can group these two items by left clicking the mouse and surrounding
them and pressing Shift g. This is quirky. I like the first method more.

There is a manual I think on their web page.
