The only solution that I am aware of is a cosmetic solution.  Go to the
menu bar View and select "Hide Deleted Messages".  This does not
actually get rid of the messages right away, but at least you won't see
them.  The hidden "Deleted" messages will be removed whenever you
"expunge" or "empty trash".
