Font Scaling Question

I went through something similar to this a week or two ago.   Suddenly the 
fonts in Kmail went really screwy and I couldn't find out the reason.  Looked 
at a lot of things...  Finally blew away my ~/.kde  directory and started 
over and everything has been fine since.

If I were you, I would:

a) Make up a new userid
b) Login to it
c) See if it runs correctly for fonts.

If so.... the problem lies somewhere in your .kde setup  (since you didn't 
mention what desktop you are running, I am assuming KDE), not in your X 
setup.
