We are just converting to SuSE. We started with 8.2 but are targeting to 9.
So far so good. I think they have done a good job with hardware detection.

I did file an installation problem report that I only got an automated
response for. The response was to tell me that this is all I would hear on
the subject. As I filed the report as an unidentified user, I guess I cannot
complain. I do not know how the problem would have been managed had I sent
the report as a registered user. (I am one, but I did not report as one.)

8.2 and 9 have been much better than 7.2, which was the king of
segmentation violations with most supplied programs.  Hardly any of that in
the recent releases. At least for the applications we use.

We are using SuSE in the user & control part of the system where a GUI and
various storage and backup devices are needed. Gentoo will boot diskless off
the SuSE system (a Gentoo setup in a shared directory) in a VME-based
measurement computer that controls our VME-based signal processing cards.

So far, so good.
