I've been wondering about Debian versions for some time and finally stumbled
across the answer this past week in the Debian Policy Manual:
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-controlfields.html#s-f-Version
The is epoch 4 (whatever that means), software version 5.5.7.9, Debian package
version 1.
Cheers!
