lilo trouble

Could it be the LBA settings?  Possibly in need of a "linear" setting?
man lilo.conf should give some insight to these settings.
You don't have a copy of lilo.conf prior to this do you?

Other than that, the general rule is this:
If the boot messages of a non-linux OS begin, the bootloader is out of the equation.
For linux-OS'es the kernel parameters still can be an issue.
